The world of web is becoming popular with each passing day. People are turning to the web for all kinds of purposes, be it for business or spiritual upliftment. The internet has become a great source of information which can be accessed by anyone from anywhere. Being an internet user is completely different from being a website-maker. Making websites requires skills and expertise in HTML and certain programming languages. HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language and XML stands for Extensible Markup language. HTML came into existence much before XML.

XML was created in 1996 by a set of 11 people and it was derived from SGML which stands for Standard Generalized Markup Language. The basic job of XML was to simply store and carry data as it is. The fact that XML uses general terms makes it very easy to understand and use. Its usability also makes it very convenient and a language of choice for a lot of webmasters. A number of languages have been developed recently which are based on XML. These languages are RSS, XHTML, SOAP and Atom. A lot of MS office productivity tools, by default, use XML based files. The processor of XML is also known as a parser. An XML processor typically goes through the code and the passes it on to an application.

The basic difference between the two languages is the goal they have. The basic goal of HTML is to decide how the data in a website will be displayed. The goal of XML is to simply contain the data. The tags and pre-defined codes exist in HTML which decides how a web page will be displayed. In XML, the file that is created has no pre-defined terms or codes. Whatever is written can easily be understood for what it is because it is quite self-explanatory. Words or terms can be created by the webmaster and then be saved in a file. Many website designers create their own terms which can be related to the business of their clients. It is easy for people who do not get HTML too well and think that codes complicate things rather than making it easy to use.

There is also a sense of clarity in XML compared to HTML. HTML needs to be learnt more vigorously by the webmasters than XML. HTML has different tags for providing layout and design of a webpage. It also has a particular structure to the coding which has to be followed while creating a website. HTML is used for displaying online pages which may have graphics, sound or video files. Hypertext links can also be used to view information contained in a website.

Certain websites which are extension to a business require monetary transactions to take place. HTML caters for such requests also. These services include transferring money from one account to another in banking websites, book train or air tickets through travel websites and many similar actions. HTML is also capable of including excel sheets and other such documents directly as part of a website. W3C maintains and keeps modifying HTML by updating it from time to time.

Web designing is a perfect art of giving way to hypermedia and hypertext contexts. Arrangements are made to deliver this content to the person who requires it most. However, the contents are mostly delivered through web browser, RSS reader, microblogging clients and clients of internet television.

The main aim of web designing is to give form to a web site. Web pages can be classified as dynamic and static. The content of a static page cannot change automatically. It requires a human interference. Someone has to update the page and then only things will happen for the better. An HTML page is a perfect instance of a static content.

Dynamic pages change and modify their content according to an external input and interaction. In web designing you can change the content with help of script languages like JScript, Java Script and something known as Actionscript. However, you have to be specific and learn the basic difference between web development and web designing.

Web designing is all about graphic designing which is required for the correct development of information featured on net. The information and the features should be such so as to perfectly suffice the several needs of consumers. The art of designing a web page involves a number of disciplines like authoring, corporate identity, human computer interaction, interaction design, photography, typography, animation, communication and graphic design, information architecture, marketing and search engine optimization.

Web designing is a modern concept. It is a form of technical art which keeps you updated with several related information and presentations. Not all can become a web designer. You have to learn the art and adopt the speciality of web designing. To design a web you need specific skills and aptitudes. It is better if you have a natural talent of forming designs in your mind. You have to create designs on your own. No body can teach you doing that. It is only that you have to learn how to execute those designs on a web page.

If you are an email marketer and you want your emails, newsletters, and the like to look as professional as possible while garnering the most response then you need to learn a little about HTML. Fortunately, HTML does not have to be confusing or tricky. As long as you can read and follow directions you will be able to include basic HTML in your newsletters and emails and make them look more professional without having to pay a professional to do it. The following tips will help you with your HTML.

Tip #1 Multipart-Alternative

When setting up your emails and newsletters you will want to have the HTML email display in “Multipart alternative format. What this means is that the email has the plain text and the html versions embedded. This is so that all those “plain text” folks out there can still view the email if they don’t choose to see it in HTML. There are several systems that can help you with this.

Tip #2 Images

With HTML you won’t be sending email files as attachments. Instead, you will have the images hosted on your server and the email’s code will have absolute paths to the images. This means that you will have to use your server’s web address in the code so that the images are actually embedded within the email. It sounds tricky, but it’s actually pretty straight forward. Once you try it a few times you will have it down.

Tip #3 Preview Pane

When you are designing your newsletters or other emails for email marketing you need to design it for the preview pane. This will give you a maximum of 600 pixels to work with and 500 pixels is probably playing it safer. The reason why is that the vast majority of recipients will not double click the email to open it to wide screen. So, don’t design it for full screen. Instead, design the email for how it is most likely to be viewed.

Tip #4

Don’t try to use CSS In emails to get the appearance you have in mind. It’s not reliable in email and won’t work right. Instead, use font tags, shim.gifs, and tables because they are what will allow you to create the “Look” you are going for.

HTML email is not as advanced as some people might imagine and the old methods that worked years ago are still being used. The last thing is to use some HTML to get the newsletter to the level you want it to be and for it to look its best.

You have your newsletter written and are excited about sending it out to your subscribers. The last thing is to use some HTML to get the newsletter to the level you want it to be and for it to look its best. The problem is, you don’t know that much about HTML. Fortunately, it’s not that difficult to learn and while there are many different things you will need to learn the following tips will help you along the way to ensure that your newsletters look great while displaying correctly across email platforms.

When it comes to background colors and that is that many times they won’t work. This is especially true with email applications that are web based like Hotmail or Gmail. That because the body tag will be eliminated in favor of the web based mail application’s logo. HTML email is not as advanced as some people might imagine and the old methods that worked years ago are still being used. That means if you want the email to have a background color the easiest way to do it is to use a 100% wide table and assign it a bgcolor. Then, you’ll have your background color.

Something else you will need to keep in mind is the plain text version. Lots of coders think about this at the very end and then do a sloppy job. The problem with this is that many spam filters will assume that this is trash and will send it straight to the junk folder.

Spam filters are very sensitive to emails from email marketers anyway so if you do anything a little off it’s likely the email will go to the trash. Don’t let this happen to you. Instead, pay attention to the plain text version of your email and ensure that it is correct so it will be delivered as is. With plain text emails it is recommended to hard wrap them at 60 characters or as many as 70 characters. You need to create a ruler across the top of your plain text editor. Just take any letter and type it 60 times or more across the top. Don’t use Microsoft Word, but rather an editor for plain text. Type your content and when you reach the end of the ruler hit return.

Publishing your own HTML newsletter is not as tough as you might think. OUtlined below are 10 easy steps to get you ont he road to publishing your own HTML newsletter.
I get many compliments on my newsletter, and every so often I’m asked how I create my email newsletter (Ezine). It’s not as tough as you might think.

In a nutshell, an HTML newsletter is a web page that is transmitted via some email broadcasting service. Because this format incorporates graphics and color, HTML newsletters are more attention-getting than plain text newsletters. Overall, when compared to a plain text newsletter, HTML newsletters:

    * Have a higher click-through rate (more readers click on the links contained within your newsletter that link back to your site, affiliate program, or sales offers)
* Permit you to track your open rate (determine how many readers actually open your email newsletter)
* Help you continue to establish your brand in front of your readers, as it may carry the same look as your website or other marketing materials you may use
* Are read more often than plain text newsletters because of the eye-catching graphics

Here are 10 steps you can follow to make the creation of your email newsletter quick and easy:

1. Select your newsletter distribution service. Many small business owners start their newsletters by choosing to send them out via their email program (Outlook). When their list begins to grow to several hundred subscribers or more, this task begins to overwhelm them. The dangers you face by choosing to send your email newsletter out through your email program are two-fold:a. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) can shut you down if you send out an excessive amount of email each day. If you exceed the daily limit of outgoing emails established by your ISP, they will brand you a spa*mmer and shut down your account, many times without warning and without any ability to reinstate your account.b. When you start to get a larger number of subscribers, you’ll begin to get emails asking you to remove them from the list (yes, it happens to us all!) or to change their email address or requesting your latest newsletter issue. Get 10-15 of these emails per day and you’ll soon end up spending all of your time managing your list.

There are a number of distribution options available in various price ranges. If you plan on designing an ezine template yourself using an HTML editor, I recommend aWeber.com, which offers sequential autoresponders in addition to being able to send out your email newsletter. If you don’t want to learn HTML and want to use a template-driven system in which all you have to do is cut and paste your text, I recommend ConstantContact.com. Both of these services offer automatic subscriber management (where subscribers can go in and change their email address or take themselves off a list) as well as the ability to customize your opt-in and thank you pages.

2. Determine your software needs. There are several heavy duty website design and HTML editing programs out there to help you design your newsletter template. If all you plan to do is create a newsletter, there’s no need to spend lots of money. I recommend that you try this easy-to-use HTML editor found at CoffeeCup.com. If you’re really interested in web design, I recommend you purchase DreamWeaver, which has a steep learning curve but will serve you well over the long-term.

3. Create your newsletter template. Your template will probably be a simple table format that incorporates your logo and a few other graphics. Your newsletter should not exceed 600 pixels in width, as you want to ensure that your readers won’t have to scroll across the screen to read your newsletter. And, in the case of HTML newsletter, size does matter. A newsletter that is large in size (greater than 25 MB) is tough to deliver through many email systems. Less than 20 KB is optimal for greatest chance of delivery to your subscribers.

4. Link all graphics to the full graphic URL. In order for an image to display, it must be hosted on a website. Some distribution programs, like Constant Contact, will host images on their server. However, if you’re creating your email newsletter from scratch, you need to tell the newsletter distribution program the full URL that will help it locate the image. So, be sure that any images your paste into your newsletter are also uploaded to your website, and check to see that the full URL for the image is listed in the image properties of your graphic. If you need an FTP program to help you upload images or pages to your hosting account, I recommend CuteFTP.com.

5. Create the content in a plain text editor program. Have you ever gotten a newsletter and it’s filled with funny characters like “you’ll”? If you create the text of your newsletter in MS Word and try and cut and paste it into your HTML editor, many times you’ll bring unwanted Word formatting in the text. Consequently, when you send out your newsletter, it appears in your subscriber’s email client with the funny characters indicated above. In many cases, the punctuation in Word (quotation marks and apostrophes, in particular) are the culprits. To ensure that you’ve created ASCII text (the most basic, format-free text), you’ll want to compose your articles in a plain text editor program, like Notepad, found on computers with Windows operating systems.

6. Finalize your newsletter content. Open your newsletter template and cut and paste your new content into this edition. Save this edition on your hard drive with a different file name than your template so that you don’t overwrite your template. If you want to create a newsletter archive, you’ll also want to upload the newsletter to your website. Check your content for typos, punctuation mistakes, and grammar mistakes.

7. Sp*am check your ezine. Some distribution services have this feature built into their broadcast service and will evaluate the content, colors, images, etc. of your email broadcast and point out if there are any attributes of your broadcast that might be caught in sp*am filters. If your service doesn’t offer this feature, you can run both the body and subject line of your broadcast through this fr*ee evaluation service: http://spamcheck.sitesell.com/. Some subject line sp*am triggers include; all caps, exclamation marks, or the word “fr*ee”. If you have a score of 5 or higher, you’ll need to change the problem components of your broadcast.

8. Upload the ezine. In most cases, this means you need to copy and paste the HTML coding from your editor into your broadcast program.

9. Use personalization. When a subject line of an email contains your first name, doesn’t that quickly grab your attention? If your broadcast service permits you to personalize either the subject line of your broadcast or the content of your broadcast, take advantage of this feature and use it! This is an easy strategy to increase your newsletter’s open rate.

10. Send out a test broadcast. To ensure that your content displays like you think it will, send yourself a test copy to yourself. I also send test copies to my AOL, Hotmail, Google, and Yahoo addresses, as many of my subscribers have those addresses. Evaluate your test copy and make any corrections or adjustments needed.

Now that you’ve completed these stepsFree Articles, you’re ready to send your broadcast.

An HTML newsletter that is published regularly is a great “stay-in-touch” marketing mechanism. Showcase your expertise and begin your newsletter today!

Flash-mania was making waves over the internet in the recent past. It was a phenomenon of sorts in the past five to six years. The corporate bigwigs preferred the creation of flash websites for their companies. But, things are changing rapidly and they are reverting back to the old methods of using HTML websites. We will analyze both the methods turn by turn.

HTML: It is considered to be the best option for an efficient and brisk delivery for access of information. Most of the designers and developers of websites will harmonize with the fact that the main goal concerning the websites is the quick delivery of information which is effectively presented in front of the audience. This can be done by using HTML. Hence, HTML has a long way to go.

Consider a situation wherein a person is looking for the address of a pizza take-away in his locality on the internet. The person will not have the patience of waiting for the long flash intro of the website to end; rather he will want the information instantly. He will not be interested in watching the graphic presentation. The person will instead like to see the phone number writhen in bold letters. This makes the HTML website more user-friendly.

If the website of a particular company requires regular updates with content that is search friendly, and is easily accessible through the search engines, then HTML has to be used without any compunction.

Flash: This is the perfect multimedia experience for the users. Flash is usually for the multimedia crazy people. Flash is a tool that always catches the eye of the creative people. The layout is not required to fit into the grids as with CSS or the tables. Sound is easily incorporated into a Flash site without the concern of browser compatibility. Huge animations can be easily swarmed in the site thus negating the need of downloading.

Flash websites have their own beauty and niche. They have their own world and once a person learns to converse with it, you are in for a truly enchanting experience. There are lots of hidden treasures to be unveiled through this experience. Flash has the capability of stimulating the imagination and leading the user to a path that is very exciting.

Building a website these days has not been a difficult task, because there are such types of software that have the implicit device in making a website within a short span of time.

Many Web pages today are poorly written. Syntactically incorrect HTML code may work in most browsers even if it does not follow HTML rules. Browsers employ heuristics to deal with these flawed Web pages; however, Web-enabled wireless devices (such as PDAs) cannot accommodate these hefty Web browsers. The next step in HTML’s evolution comes in the form of XHTML (eXtended Hypertext Markup Language), which is basically a combination of HTML and XML.

History

As with XML, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was the force behind XHTML’s development. When XML was introduced, a two-day workshop was held to discuss whether a new version of HTML in XML was needed. The answer was a resounding “Yes.”

The first W3C Recommendation to be published was XHTML 1.0, which reformulates HTML 4.0.1 in XML and combines the strengths of the two markup languages. The recommendation followed from earlier work on HTML 4.0.1, HTML 4.0, HTML 3.2, and HTML 2.0.

The second W3C Recommendation was XHTML Basic. It boasts of images, forms, basic tables, and object support. XHTML Basic is designed for Web clients that do not support the full set of XHTML features; examples of these clients are mobile phones, PDAs, pagers, and set-top boxes.

The third W3C Recommendation to come out was on the Modularization of XHTML. It provides a means for extending and creating subsets for XHTML. The modular design introduced by this recommendation underscores the invalidity of the “one-size-fits-all” approach nowadays, especially with the advent of Web browsers that vary in capabilities (e.g. cellphone browser vs. desktop PC browser).

The fourth W3C Recommendation was XHTML 1.1 (Module Based XHTML). Here, a new XHTML document type is defined based on the modular design of the third XHTML Recommendation.

Profile

XHTML is a family of current and future document types and modules that contains all of the HTML 4.0.1 elements combined with XML syntax. XHTML is classified as an XML Application, and thus possess many XML features.

XHTML, described by Andrew Tanenbaum as a “language that is Very Picky”, differs itself from HTML by its stricter syntax.

The current version of XHTML that is supported by browsers is XHTML 1.0, a W3C Recommendation discussed earlier. There are three variants to XHTML 1.0:

XHTML 1.0 Strict — used for exceptionally clean structural markup; the CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) language can be used with this variant to get the desired font, color, and layout effects

XHTML 1.0 Transitional — best option for Web authors with webpages meant for general public access; takes advantage of XHTML features including style sheets

XHTML 1.0 Frameset — used to partition the Web browser window into two or more frames

Syntax

The important thing to remember here is that XHTML is extended HTML. This means that writing XHTML code is very similar to writing HTML code. The only difference lies in the fact that XHTML is more strict and more structured than its progenitor.

A good way of familiarizing yourself with XHTML is to get old HTML code and bring it up to XHTML standards. You’ll need to keep in mind several rules:

All elements must be properly nested.

All elements must be properly closed.

All tag names must be in lower case.

All attribute names must be in lower case.

All attribute values must be properly quoted.

The “id” attribute replaces the “name” attribute.

All images must have alternate (“alt”) text — make the page accessible for devices that don’t load images, or screen-readers for the blind.

All XHTML documents must have a DOCTYPE declaration, as well as the “html”, “head”, and “body” elements.

The “title” element must be present within the “head” element.

A good hands-on tutorial on XML can be found at http://w3schools.com

Discpiline and practice will allow you to master XHTML in no time. However, if you don’t want to convert an existing HTML document to XHTML yourself, you can use HTML Tidy, a software that does the transformation for you. Also, you can use Amaya, a web browser and editor that saves HTML documents as XHTML ones.

Web host play an essential part in your internet business. Whether it is home based or commercial business, your webspace provider (a.k.a.) has the perfect solution for storing or uploading company data on servers. Basically, a web hosting solution can be categorised into three types, co-located server hosting, dedicated hosting, and shared hosting. This categorisation helps company to determine the exact solution for their business.

Most middle-sized or large sized firms may choose dedicated hosting solutions for their hosting needs. The server is located offsite and is maintained by the webspace provider. Large-sized organisations would rather opt for Co-located server hosting. This type of hosting solution costs more as the firm needs to purchase more than one server for their use. Monitoring of the server is also required.

The best and most prevalent web hosting option is shared hosting. It is inexpensive and monitors a majority of small business sites. Here, Web host may also provide customers to develop their own ecommerce sites through design templates and other tools.

Every webspace provider also ensures to track the number of visitors who come and navigate through a particular web site. They do this with the help of log files.
